Going Green with TaeguTec’s MATRIX RECYCLE Program
With Earth Day on April 22, TaeguTec is happy to bring to light one of its popular programs that recycles used carbide inserts from its customers; a program that has immense environmental benefits for the future.
The MATRIX RECYCLE program offers a unique solution to recycle carbide scrap easily and effectively. To help in the daily operations of any manufacturing company’s metalworking division while also keeping an eye on the environment, the MATRIX RECYCLE automates the entire process by emailing an alert to the shop floor’s supplier when it is time for collection.
At the time of this article, the median price for ammonium paratungstate (APT), the basic ore which becomes tungsten carbide, was $257.50 per MTU. Moreover, APT is a finite resource, along with the other raw materials used in the manufacture of cutting tools. Estimates vary somewhat across the geology field but the consensus is there are around 7 million tons of tungsten reserves globally.
Given current consumption trends, it is predicted that there is around 100 years of consumption left in the existing mines.
According to current international figures, production from recycled materials can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 40 percent.
By recycling the materials used in manufacturing, industries can save on the digging of ores, cut CO2 emissions, drop the overall amount of energy needed to extract these valuable natural resources and cut on the tremendous amount of water needed in mining.
Therefore, why mine unnecessarily when recycling offers a cheaper, less carbon intensive approach to providing various applications made from this crucial raw material.
For these reasons and the health of future generations, the Asian metalworking giant believes that this program is more than beneficial; it is also practical.
